Objective: Compare acupuncture in 4 different types of chronic functional constipationtreatment and investigate the effect and safety.Methods: According to the RomeⅡcriterion of chronic functional constipation 36 caseswere recruited. Firstly, they were inquired history and passed the slow transit test, bariumenema, cinedefecography and anorectal manometry etc, secondly, they were grouped Slowtransit constipation (STC) group(n=8), Outlet obstruction constipation (OOC) group (n=10),MIX group (n=7) and IBS-C group (n=11). The acupuncture points are TIAN SHU, ZUSANLI, SHANG JUXU, DACHANG SHU, SISHENCONG and the coordination ofacupoints are ZHONGWAN, HEGU, YANGLINQUAN, and SANYINGJIAO etc. Thetreatment is once a day and a session needs 20 days. We should finish the defecation diaryincluding stool hardness, duration, frequency and bloating, pain, awareness of defecationetc. and investigate the symptom score improvement.Results: General effective rate is 88.9%. OOC group is 80%, STC group is 87.5, MIXgroup is 85.7% and IBS-C group is 100% respectively. The accompany symptom andlaxative use are all improved after treatment(P<0.05). There is no dysevent in wholetreatment sessions.Conclusions: Acupuncture in chronic functional constipation is effective and safe. It canimprove the capital and accompany symptoms of chronic functional constipation. Most ofthe patients are satisfied with the outcome. It is more effective in IBS-C group.
