Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of preventionmother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) intervention in Anhui province,to provide areference for future better PMTCT work. The objective of this study was also todescribe the growth and development of infants born to HIV infected-mothers, toprovide the basic information for promoting infant health. Methods: HIV infected-mothers and their infants which were discovery fromSeptember1st2004to Decembe31th2012were retrospectively studied. HIV positiverate of pregnant women, application of antiretroviral drugs of HIV-infected mothers andtheir infants, the feeding and infection conditions of infants born by HIV-infectedmothers were analyzed. Index of growth of infants born to HIV-infected mothers wascompared to the standards of growth of children in Nine City of China2005and WHOstandard2006. The index of Z scores of weight for age, height for age, weight for height, were calculated using WHO Anthro2011at birth1,3,6,9,12and18months of age. Thet test was used to evaluate growth and development of the infant, applying SPSS11.5Statistical software. Results: A total of302pregnant women were found HIV positive, with the positive rateof0.17%(594/339866).And the rate was declining year by year. The highest rate was1.50‰(3/2005)in2004, and the lowest rate was0.10‰(67/678701)in2012.85.1%pregnant women had taken anti-HIV drugs,92.7%infants had taken anti-HIV drugs,100%infants received artificial feeding.187infants were followed up.0f the187infants, 102accepted examination and2HIV positive. The maternal infant transmission rateafter intervention was1.96%(2/102). Among the187infants born by HIV-infectedmothers, there are20(10.6%) small for gestational age infants,20(10.6%) large forgestational age infants.8low-weight newborns (4.3%),12growth-retardation newborns(6.4%).In addition to1month old, the weight of infant boys born to HIV-infectedmothers was higher than the WHO standard under other months(P<0.05). In additionto3months old, the height of infant girls born to HIV-infected mothers was higher thanthe WHO standard under other month(sP<0.05). Compared with the Chinese standard, the weight and height of infants born to HIV-infected mothers had no statisticallysignificant with the reference values under every month. By the WHO internationalreference (weight-for-height reference values2006), the results showed: the highestdetection rate of overweight of infants was at6th months, about26.5%. The highestdetection rate of overweight obesity was at18th months, about12.9%. The detectionrate of marasmus and low weight was higher at smaller months. The highest detectionrate of growth retardation was at1st month, about11.8%. By the Chinese standard(percentage of median reference values of urban child under7-year,2009), the resultsshowed: the highest detection rate of overweight of infants was at3rd month, about24.6%. The highest detection rate of overweight obesity was at1st month, about19.8%.The detection rate of marasmus was declining year by year. Conclusion: Anhui province have made great efforts in preventing mother-to-childtransmission of AIDS and got obvious effect. However, it still need to further strengthen. The physical growth and development of infants born by HIV-infected mothers had agood level.
