Clinical Analysis On Patients Of Concurrent Hyperthyroidism And Thyroid Carcinoma

1. ObjectiveThis study aims to describe the characteristics of patients of concurrent hyperthyroidism and thyroid carcinoma admitted during Jan2010to Jun2013, to explore the relationship between the two diseases, to discuss the early diagnosis as well as the method to prevent misdiagnosis, and to evaluate the effect of clinical treatment.2. MethodsIn this study, we retrospectively collected80patients of concurrent hyperthyroidism and thyroid carcinoma. Literature review was conducted.3. ResultsDuring Jan2001to Jun2013,1465patients of hyperthyroidism were admitted to our hospital. After pathological examination,80patients have concurrent thyroid carcinoma, which accounted for5.46%of all the patients. All80patients were diagnosed as Graves disease companied with thyroid carcinoma. Among the80patients,70were unilateral (31on left and39on right) and10were bilateral;14had a tumor diameter larger than2cm; cervical lymph node metastasis wasn’t detected.After pathological examination,59were diagnosed as thyroid papillary carcinoma,18Follicular cell carcinoma of thyroid,2Thyroid papillary and follicular cell carcinoma, and1Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma. There wasn’t any complications of nerve injury, and all patients were cured and discharged. During the follow-up of3mongths,2patients were diagnosed as cervical lymph node, trachea, pulmonary, and osseous metastasis.4. ConclusionsHyperthyroidism companied with thyroid carcinoma was hard to diagnose before the surgery and most of the patients were diagnosed based on pathological examination. Early detection and early diagnosis is the key to decrease misdiagnosis and to improve the effect of surgical treatment.
