The Clinical Comparision On Laparoscopic Vs Open Resection Of Small Intestinal Stromal Tumors

Objective:To assess the safety, feasibility, efficacy and advantages of the laparoscopic operation in treating small intestinal stromal tumors by comparing it with open surgery.Method:Data were collected concerning patients who underwent radical resection for small intestinal stromal tumors in the genera department of our hospital between June2006and January2013. The duodenum stromal tumors cases、 tumor diameter>5cm cases and patients who took gleevec were not included. Cases lost to follow after operation were excluded too. Twenty-two patients underwent laparoscopic resection and thirty-four patients underwent traditional open surgery. The medical records of these patients were reviewed with respect to patient demographics, operative time, estimated blood loss, length of incision, postoperative flatus-passed time, postoperative hospitalization days,postoperative complications, postoperative pain condition,expenses of hospitalization and the results of following up.Results:Though patient demographics and tumor characteristics (including tumor location, size, growth pattern and pathological risk) were similar between both arms.There were significant differences in regarding to estimated blood loss, incision length、postoperative flatus-passed time, postoperative hospitalization days, postoperative complications and postoperative pain condition between the laparoscopic group and the open group. In the following up time, one case recurred and one case died in laparoscopic resection group,while one case died and two cases recurred in open resection one.Conclusions:Compared to traditional open resection, the laparoscopic resection of small intestinal stromal tumors is safe, feasible,effective and advantageous to tumor diameter≤5cm cases.
