Study On The Influencing Factors In Peritumoral Brain Edema Of Glioma And Its Clinical Significance

Abstract/Summary:
Objective:The purpose of this study was to explore the related factors influencing the development of PTBE (Peritumoral brain edema) and probe into the clinical significance of glioma PTBE.Methods:A total of65patients with intracranial glioma were included in this study. Edema index [El=(Vedema+Vtumor)/Vtumor] were used to measure the extent of PTBE, which was obtained from the size of the glioma and the associated PTBE on contrast enhancement and T2-weighted (or FLAIR) images of MRI. The relationship between El and a variety of intraoperative factors were evaluated. Other possible factors were also investigated,which include tumor location, size, pathological type and tumor blood supply,Results:1. There were no significant correlations between El with patients’characteristics (gender or age) and duration of clinical symptoms (P>0.05). However, El was negatively correlated with Karnofsky performance score on admission (The correlation coefficient-0.440)2. No significant correlation was demonstrated between El and glioma texture (P>0.05), however, the blood supply of glioma had significant correlation with El (P<0.05)3. Tumor size had negative correlation with El (The correlation coefficient is-0.514)4. Tumor location played a significant role for El (P<0.05)5. The pathological grade and expression of Ki-67positive cell were significantly related to El of glioma (P<0.05), however, pathological type were not (P>0.05)Conclusion:Clinical symptoms, tumor location, size, blood supply of the tumor, pathological grade and malignancy were significant correlated with PTBE of glioma.
