Objective:Based on Hamilton Depression Scale (HAM-D) and Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAM-A) assessment, this research studies the effect of tandospirone citrate (a5-TH1A receptor agonist) on epileptic patients with anxiety depression treatment. It could provide a new method for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of depression in patients with epilepsy.Methodology:134epileptic patients with depression and anxiety were treated as the subjects of the study. They were the patients from the first clinical hospital of Shanxi Medical University and the department of neurology of the Third Hospital of Shanxi Medical University during from November2012to November2013. The subjects were divided into two groups with91patients in the treatment group and43patients in the control group. The patients in the treatment group would take10mg of tandospirone each time, three times a day, in addition to the conventional anti-epileptic drugs while the patients in the control group just took conventional anti-epileptic drugs. The degree of depression and anxiety of the patients in both groups was assessed with HAM-D and HAM-A before the treatment and in the second, the forth and the eighth week after the treatment. Meanwhile, the changes of the number of epileptic seizures were recorded in both groups during the whole study. The results would be analyzed with the use of the software SPSS17.0. The scores of HAMA and HAMD would be illustrated by M±SD (x+s). Paired-sample T test would be utilized in the present study and the significance level is0.05. The number of seizures would be illustrated by median[M(P25,p75)]. Mann-Whitney U Test would be adopted to compare the two groups and the significance level is0.05. The effects of the treatment between the groups would be analyzed by utilizing Chi-square test(χ2) at the significance level of0.05.Result:1.There was no significant difference between the two groups after the second week at the significant level of0.05(P<0.05). The scores of HAM-D and HAM-A in the treatment group were significantly reduced compared with those in control group4weeks after the treatment. Four weeks after the treatment of tandospirone citrate, the scores of HAMD and the scores of HAMA in the treatment group were significantly decreased compared with those before the treatment(P<0.05).2.Seizure frequency of the treatment group was significantly decreased compared with that in control group8weeks after the treatment since the difference is significant in statistics at the level of0.05(U=-2.92, P<0.05).3.Severe adverse reaction was not found in both groups. Conclusion:The assessment results of the treatment group and the comparison group by the use of Depression Scale (HAMD) and Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA) before the treatment and2,4,8weeks after the treatment indicate:1) The treatment of the Tandospirone Citrate Tablets (SEDIEL) for the epileptic patients with anxiety and depression would lead to the reduction of all of the symptoms, which is helpful to improve the patients’negative emotion and increase the cure rate.2) The treatment of the Tandospirone Citrate Tablets (SEDIEL) could decrease Seizure frequency of the patients with the symptoms of anxiety and depression for the patients with anxiety and depression. Therefore, it could be regarded as an effective remedy.3) There may be better anti-anxiety and anti-depressant effects with more prolonged treatment.
