Objective To evaluate the efficacies of treating elbow impingement syndrome withelbow arthroscopy technique. Methods Between February2010and October2013,a total of68cases werediagnosed and treated with elbow impingement syndrome under elbow arthroscopytechnique. All patients had history of the limit of flexion elbow function to varyingdegrees in the course of the disease. There were40males and28females with anaverage age of46.5±22.5years(24-69years).The average duration of onset-operationwas15years (5-25years).All patients underwent five-portals to probe the situations ofall over the joint cavity.Arthroscopic debridement and plasty of synovial and cartilagewound were performed.Loose Bodies were removed completely from elbowjoint.Partial resection of osteophytes proliferation was performed fromtrochlea, olecranon fossa and olecranon tip and osteocapsular arthroplasty was alsomade. All these ways better reconstruct the elbow joint function.Postoperative careincluding anti-infection, rehabilitation and so on.All elbows were assessed for increasein ROM and Mayo assessment before and after surgery.Observing the improvementelbow function when elbow impingement was removed. Results All postoperative patient were follow-up,with an average of15months(6-24months).The range of motion and Mayo Elbow Performance Score aftersurgery had significant differences when compared with those beforeoperation(P<0.05).Preoperative Mayo assessment: good,32patients; common,20patients;bad,16patients.Postoperative Mayo assessment:excellent,45patients;good,18patients;common,3patients;bad,2patient.Postoperative patients elbow swelling and pain had relieved, elbow flexion function had obviously improved and sports and lifefunction had returned to normal. Conclusion The efficacy and safety of elbow arthroscopy treatment on elbowimpingement syndrome is reliable. Its treatment in elbow impingement syndromecombined with reasonable rehabilitation can dramatically improve elbow function.Andthis approach appears to be the most satisfactory management for the improvement ofelbow function.
