Objective: To discuss the clinical characteristics, pathogenic bacteria, andprognosis of patients with endophthalmitis after cataract surgery. Methods: From January2003to December2013,54patients (55eyes)from department of ophthalmology, the First Affiliated Hospital of GuangxiMedical University, suffered from endophthalmitis after cataract surgery werereviewed retrospectively, and the main analysis content were the characteristicsof the disease, the treatments, the pathogen test results, and the treatmentoutcomes. Results: The average onset time was7.29days after cataract surgery,42eyes (76.36%) was in7days,49eyes(89.09%) was in2weeks, and6eyes(10.91%) was over2weeks. Anterior chamber fluid or vitreous of41patientswas tested for pathogen detection in our hospital, which11was culture positive,The culture-positive was26.83%(11/41). Excluding1cases, the vision acuityof5eyes(55.55%) before treatment was greater than or equal to0.05, the visionacuity of27eyes(55.55%) after treatment was greater than or equal to0.05, andthe overall vision acuity after treatment was better than before (p<0.05). No one eyeball was enucleated. Conclusion: Early diagnosis and early rational drug and surgicalintervention could restore parts of varying degrees of visual function in patients. There was no difference in the incidence of endophthalmitis after cataractsurgery, using different types of incisions of cataract surgery. Whether or nothaving intravenous and subconjunctival injection of antibiotics, there was nodifference in the incidence of endophthalmitis after cataract surgery.
