Objective: The purpose of the present study was to analyze the riskmulti-factors of postoperative pulmonary complications for elderly patients withesophageal carcinoma.Methods: A total of327operations for elderly patients(60years of age) withesophageal carcinoma were performed in our department from June1986to March2013.The possible risk factors were examined by univariate and multivariatenon-conditional logistic regression analysis.Results: Logistic regression analysis showed that five factors would be the mainrisk factors for postoperative pulmonary complications,including BMI,Smokingindex,Basic diseases,FEV1predicted and duration of operation.Conclusions: In order to decrease the risk factors leading to postoperativepulmonary complications for elderly patients with esophageal carcinoma, it wasnecessary to quit smoking, completely evaluate the functions of lung, conducteffective breathing exercises, and better control the existing basic diseases beforeoperation, and perform the minimally invasive operation, shorten operation duration.
