Objective Ovarian thecoma is uncommon in clinical practice, the pathological examination after operation can make a definite diagnosis, To investigate the MRI and pathologic features of ovarian thecoma. Methods MRI findings of30patients with surgically and pathologically proved ovarian thecoma were retrospectively analyzed and compared with pathologic finding. Correlation analysis between tumor size, solid cystic and amount of ascites was made.Result Ovarian thecoma displayed.iso-or hypointense signal on T1WI and9cases appeared as most isointensity mixed with little hyperintensity on T2WI. Two cases appeared as hyperintensity on T2WI; After enhancement, most lesions showed mild early enhancement with slight increase on the delayed phase.20cases associated with a large quantity of ascites and2cases associated with pleural effusion on MRI. Pathological necrosis and cystic degeneration were seen in30cases which corresponded to the number and shape of the cystic lesions on MRI. The amounts of ascites was not significantly correlated with the lesion size(r=0.29,P>0.05), tumor cystic degeneration showed correlation with degree of ascites neither(r=0.25, P=>0.05). There were no significant differences in pathological cellular composition among the three MRI subtypes (x2=0.67,P>0.05).Conclusion Hypointensity on T2WI and mild enhancement pattern supply are the characteristics of ovarian thecoma. The MRI finding can reflect the pathologic features of the tumor, which is helpful in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis.
