Object:To observe the clinical efficacy and complications of the treatment of osteoporoticvertebral compression fracture (OVCF) with the method of percutaneous kyphoplasty(PKP).Methods:46patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures were treated by PKPduring February2012to Octouber2013in the. second affiliated hospital of SuzhouUniversity. Record operation time and the amount of bone cement injected. The meanvalue of Visual Analogue Scores (VAS) and the Oswestry disability index (ODI) of everypatient was observed before PKP, after PKP for3days,1month,2months and3months toevaluate the efficacy of PKP in pain relief and promoting the quality of life. Measuring theanterior, middle, posterior vertebral height and kyphotic angle before PKP, after PKP for1month,6months to evaluate the efficacy of PKP in vertebral height restoration andpostoperative loss conditiont. All data were analyzed using SPSS17.0.Results:46patients were successfully operated. Operative time was30.5-46.0min, average38.5min.46cases are bilateral puncture, bone cement injection volume average3.9mL(2.5-6.0mL). All patients without bone cement leakage occurs, there are no complicationsclinical symptoms. The mean VAS scores at3days,1month,3month,6month post-operative were2.75±0.88,1.21±0.52,1.01±0.29,1.00±0.25,8.50±0.91compared with pre-operative significantly lower, the difference were statistically significant (P <0.05); ODI scores were:22.31±6.21,8.56±1.23,3.02±1.21,2.45±0.80,41.21±2.76compared with pre-operative significantly lower, the difference was statistically significant (P <0.05). Theanterior and middle vertebral body height, kyphosis of1day post-operative were22.4±3.8,20.5±4.8,15.2±3.8compared with pre-operative of18.9±5.0,16.1±6.0,27.2±4.4significantly improved (P <0.05), compared with6month post-operative of22.3±3.2,20.7±4.6,15.4±3.6little changed (P <0.05), all patients had postoperative bleeding bonecement leakage occurs, no new cases of vertebral fractures. Conclusion:PKP is one obvious effect of treatments for osteoporotic vertebral compressionfractures of the small kind of trauma treatment, in the short term can quickly relieve painand improve patient quality of life of patients.
