Literature Research On Acupuncture And Moxibustioil For Mental Retardation

Background:Mental retardation is a syndrome caused by a variety of factors, it mainly manifests as intellectual defect. In the ancient literature of traditional Chinese medicine mental retardation is not clearly defined, but the symptoms are similar to dementia, or "wuchi","wuruan" etc. It seriously affects the patient’s quality of life, so that the medical workers pay more and more attention about the treatment of mental retardation. The effect of modern medicine on this disease is not significant. There are series of clinical and experimental researches about acupuncture and moxibustion on treating mental retardation. But the quality varies greatly and perfect ancient research is lacked. As a result, the evaluation of curative effect and prevention need an enhanced theoretical basis.Objective:Explore on acupuncture treatment of mental retardation theoretical basis from literatureand sum up the treatment method and effect of acupuncture on mental retardation. Moreover, establish the theoretical basis in order to spread the therapeutic methods and social value by analyzing the advantages and disadvantages.Methods:Collect ancient literature of acupuncture and moxibustion on mental retardation from the school library, relevant research institutions and medicinal databases. Summarize the analysis of ancient literature by the origin and development of the etiology and pathogenesis, frequency of acupuncture acupoints selection, meridians, manipulation of acupuncture and nursing. From the essays published before2014, summarize the frequency of acupuncture acupoints selcetion, meridians, acupuncture manipulation of modern acupuncture treatment on mental retardation in order to study the publication, status and quality of the reasearches of acupuncture and moxibustion on treating mental retardation according to the inclusion criteria. At the same time, evaluate the clinical efficacy with a systematic review method. Finally, explore an effective way of acupuncture to treat mental retardation by comparing the ancient and modern literature.Result:Make mental retardation corresponding to "chidai" and "yuchi" in ancient literature clearly. Mental retardation is caused by congenital deficiency and postnatal mainutition and related to the disorders of Du meridian, heart meridian, kidney meridian, acupoints like Shenmen(HT7), Baihui(DU20), Tongli(HT5) and Thirteen Ghost Acupoints are mostly selceted. The main manipulations in the ancient literature include "needling lcm", "For7breaths" on Shenmen(HT7),"applying three moxa cones"on xinshu(BL15). Retaining the needles for30-60minutes in modern literature. Acupuncture is better than medicine, especially on intellectual and social adaptability, and the younger the better. But there is no obvious advantage for the treatment of the language barrier.Conclusion:Acupuncture treatment of mental retardation should be based on Du meridian, Heart meridian and kidney meridian. Moreover, should be selected mainly. For the patients with mental retardation, acupuncture and moxibustion is an effective, safe and reliable way and deserves to be applied generally in clinic.
