Objective:To evaluate the effect of Ginkgo biloba in the ocular blunt trauma with abnormal VEP.Methods:41cases (41eyes) in ocular blunt trauma with abnormal VEP in our hospital from April2012to January2014were collected and randomly divided into Ginkgo biloba Group (n=21,21eyes) and Control Group (n=20,20eyes). Both groups were given routine treatment and Ginkgo biloba Group was treated with additional Ginkgo biloba. The course of treatment was about4weeks. The clinical efficacy of two groups after treatment was assessed. The best corrected visual acuity(BCVA) and the latency and amplitude of VEP were compared between the two groups. All statistical values were analyzed by SPSS18.0,and P<0.05means statistically significant.Results:1.comparable analysis:There were34males (82.93%) and7females (17.07%) in41cases (41eyes) of ocular blunt trauma with abnormal VEP, aged from18years to48years(31.22±9.43).There were18right eyes (43.90%),23left ones(56.10%). The injuried factors consisted of impact injuries(56.10%), traffic accident(17.07%),crashes(14.63%) and others(12.20%).There were24cases (58.54%) receiving treatment from thirty minutes to six hours after injury,7cases (17.07%) from six hours to one day,and10cases (24.39%) from more than one day after injury. The best corrected visual acuity before treatment:light perception (LP) were3eyes(7.31%),hand movement were10eyes(24.40%), Finger count(FC) was5eyes(12.20%),3.0-3.9were1eye(2.44%),4.0-4.9were22eyes(53.65%). The gender, the age, the receiving treatment time, the LogMAR vision and the latency and amplitude of VEP between two groups were compared before treatment, which showed no statistically significant (P>0.05).2. VEP:Comparison of the latency and amplitude of P-VEP or F-VEP between injuried eyes and contralateral eyes before treatment was statistically significant (P<0.05).3. visual comparison:Comparison of LogMAR visual acuity of two groups between before and after treatment was statistically significant (P<0.05).4.Comparison of efficacy:The difference of effective rate between Ginkgo biloba group (85.71%) and Control Group (75.00%) was statistically significant (Z=-2.026, P=0.043<0.05).5.P100:Comparison of the latency and amplitude of P100between injuried eyes and contralateral eyes in Ginkgo biloba group after treatmen was no statistically significant (P>0.05),which in control group was statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion:1.Abnormal VEP in ocular blunt trauma could not only confirm the trauma of visual pathway, but also further determine the severity of trauma.2. The visual of two groups were improved after treatment, therefore,it is very important to take timely and effectively therapy to help the recovery of visual function.3.The clinical efficacy of Ginkgo biloba Group was better than Control Group, which could accelerated the recovery of visual function, and it was worth of promoting.
