Objective:This study aimed to observe the characteristics in population biology index, laboratory indicators and complications of a group of people with gan-shen yin deficiency type2diabetic retinopathy and summed up the characterization of this kind of person. We hope that it can provide objective evidence for the clinical diagnosis of TCM.Methods:This study is a retrospective review. We recruited294subjects with type2diabetic retinopathy which selected from the Diabetes Department, Ophthalmology Department, Ophthalmology Center of the First Affliated Hospital of Xia Men University and Xia Men Hospital of T.C.M. The figures were gathered between Jan,2010to Dec,2011. According to syndrome differentiation of TCM diagnostic criteria, the subjects were divided into two groups, the observation group (gan-shen yin deficiency) and the control group (without gan-shen yin deficiency). The observation group was further divided based on with phlegm or not, or with blood stasis or not. We recorded each index such as sex, age, body weight, body mass index, duration of diabetes, fasting plasma glucose, random plasma glucose, HbAlc, TG, TC, HDL-C, LDL-C, UA, fundus staging and complications and maked analysis of the data. Stastical data analysis used the SPSS13.0software. For the normally distributed data were descriped by the mean standard deviation (X±S), using the two independent samples t test. Contrary, we descriped it by the median M (25%-75%) said, using Mann-Whitney U test. For the count data, we use theX2test. All of tests were the two-sided test and P<0.05was the test standard.Results:1. Population biology index: Compared with the control group, the observation group (with gan-shen yin deficiency) had a higher proportion of female, lower height, lower diastolic blood pressure (P<0.05). Compared with the group of gan-shen yin deficiency subjects without phlegm, the group of gan-shen yin deficiency subjects with phlegm had higher level in the age, body weight, BMI, waist circumference and lower height (P<0.05). Compared with the group of gan-shen yin deficiency subjects without blood stasis, the group of gan-shen yin deficiency subjects with blood stasis had higher proportion of female, lower height (P<0.05).2. Experimental index:The observation group had higher prevalence of PDR and higher level in HbAlc and TG, which compared with the control group (P<0.05). The comparison between the group of gan-shen yin deficiency subjects with phlegm and the subjects without phlegm, the group of gan-shen yin deficiency subjects with blood stasis and the subjects without blood stasis, there was no significant difference of the level in the TG, TC, HDL-C, LDL-C, FPG, random plasma glucose, HbAlc, UA, DR stage (P>0.05).3. Complications:To be compared with the control group, the prevalence of DN and DPN was higher in the gan-shen yin deficiency group (63.0%vs47.4%, P=0.008;56.8%vs31.6%, P=0.000). To be compared with the group of gan-shen yin deficiency subjects without phlegm, the prevalence of hypertension and fatty liver was higher in the group of gan-shen yin deficiency subjects with phlegm (62.3%vs44.0%, P=0.048;55.1%vs20.4%, P=0.000). To be compared with the group of gan-shen yin deficiency subjects without blood stasis, the prevalence of fatty liver was higher in the group of gan-shen yin deficiency subjects with blood stasis (47.9%vs28.9%, P=0.041).Conclusions:1. For the type2diabetic retinopathy patients, the characterization of subjects with gan-shen yin deficiency was shown in gender, height, diastolic blood pressure, triglyceride levels blood glucose levels, the severity of retinopathy, and the ratio combined with DN or DPN.2. For the gan-shen yin deficiency type2diabetic retinopathy patients, the characterization of subjects with phlegm evil was shown in age, height, body weight, BMI, waist circumference, and hypertension or fatty liver ratio. Otherwise, the characterization of subjects with blood stasis was shown in gender, height and the proportion of complicated with fatty liver.
