ObjectiveTo investigate the thermal image features of women with constitution of Qi-stagnation by thermal infrared imager.MethodsWomen for healthy examination and female patients in the out-patient department in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University of TCM were collected from July to September2012. Constitutional questionnaire of The Classification and Determination of Traditional Chinese Medicine Constitution was filled in, established by the Association of Chinese Medicine2009-04-09. Constitutions of neutral and qi-stagnation were identified by critical value approach scores of constitutions. All women were scanned by Beijing Yuetian HIR-2000infrared camera. Thus, systemic10to11thermal images were achieved and calorific values in51regions were measured to analyze the average absolute thermal value.Results1. There were116Qi-stagnation samples and40neutral samples. The calorific values of four limbs and the back showed significant difference. The calorific values of major thenar, palm center, right middle finger, right ring finger, right lower back area, Dazhui area and Du channel in Qi-stagnation group were higher than those in neutral group (P<0.05). The calorific values of posterior head, anterior thigh and calf, popliteal area, and posterior calf were lower than those of neutral group (P<0.05)2. The calorific values of the face, upper arm, forearm, palm center, chest, breast, upper abdomen, and the middle back were positively correlated to the level of mesenchymal transition of H in Qi-stagnation (P<0.05)3. The comparison between primary Qi-stagnation and the neutral:the calorific values of the back and lower limbs showed significant difference. The difference value showed distinctively significant difference. The calorific values of upper back, waist and back, Dazhui area, Du channel and upper chest were significantly higher than those in secondary Qi-stagnation (P<0.05). The calorific values of posterior left thigh, anterior right thigh, anterior left calf and posterior right calf were significantly lower than those in the secondary Qi-stagnation (P<0.05)4. The comparison between the neutral and Qi-stagnation with cold:the calorific values of major thenar, palm center and right fingers in Qi-stagnation with cold group were higher than those of neutral group (P<0.05). The calorific values of posterior head, front of the thigh and calf, knee, popliteal area, and posterior calf were lower than those in neutral group (P<0.05). The calorific values of middle back, waist and back, Du channel, middle abdomen, lower abdomen, anterior thighs, and posterior calf in Qi-stagnation with cold were lower than those of Qi-stagnation with heat (P<0.05)5. There was no difference between Qi-stagnation with excess and with deficiency (P<0.05)6. Comparison between76samples of infertility of Qi-stagnation with the neutral: the difference part was exclusively indicated in left fingers. The calorific value in the thermal increasing regions elevated, and calorific value in the thermal decreasing regions declined dramatically.Conclusion1. The thermal image in Qi-stagnation constitution is featured as upper heat and lower cold, in which the infertility one is manifested by heat transmission all over the body, especially on the upper regions.2. The thermal image in Qi-stagnation constitution with cold is featured as trend of upper heat and lower cold, especially on the right regions.
