Objectives1. To translate and modify the Undergraduate Nursing Students’ Academic Satisfaction Scale (UNSASS), and hence to suit both Chinese cultural background and Chinese nursing education.2. Pilot study of NSISS to explore nursing student internship satisfaction and related influencing factors, and to provide reference for clinical nursing education programs enhancement.Methods1. Brislin translation procedure was employed to translate the UNSASS scale.2. A pilot trial was conducted. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was used to develop the intra-structure of the UNSASS scale. The reliability analysis included the Cronbach’s a coefficient, split-half reliability, test-retest reliability and item-total correlation coefficient. The validity analysis included content validity and construct validity.3. The demographic questionnaire, NSISS and role ambiguity scale was used to investigate470nursing students at Grade3hospitals in Changsha. The statistical analysis included t test, F test, correlation and regression analysis.Results1.Through item analysis and exploratory factor analysis, a39-item NSISS was developed, including4dimensions (classroom teaching, clinical teaching, internship program, support and resources).2. Reliability and validity verification:(1) The Cronbach’s a for the whole scale and each dimension were0.972,0.906,0.940,0.941and0.972, respectively.(2) The split reliability correlation coefficient for the whole scale and each dimension were0.906,0.884,0.913,0.897, and0.892, respectively.(3) The test-retest correlation coefficient for the whole scale was0.827, and for each dimension were0.718~0.902.(4) The item-total correlation coefficients were ranged from0.586to0.754.(5) The correlation coefficient between dimensions and total scale were0.835,0.933,0.871,0.807, respectively. The correlation coefficient between dimensions were0.668~0.789.(6) The S-CVI/UA measured to verify the content validity was0.875; The KMO value measured to verify the construct validity was0.971.3. Regression analysis showed that internship time, interest, and career planning entered the regression equation.4. Correlation analysis showed that the Pearson correlation coefficients of role ambiguity and in-class teaching, clinical teaching, internship program, support and resources, the total score of NSISS were respectively0.453,0.441,0.520,0.347,0.474, P<0.001.Conclusions1. The NSISS is a reliable and valid instrument with good psychological measurement properties.2. Internship time, interest, career planning, parents and family, and role ambiguity are the influencing factors of nursing students’ internship satisfaction.3. Role ambiguity was negative correlated to internship satisfaction of nursing students.
