Objective:To study the expression and clinical significance of ALDH1in intrahepatic cholangiocarcioma.Methods:73tumor samples confirmed as intrahepatic cholangiocarcioma and6adjacent tissues as control were studied during2010Oct to2011Oct.,45were males,28were females, aged38-73. Based on the pathological stage, the tumor samples were divided into3groups,26in the well differentiates,17in the moderately differentiates, and30in the minor differentiates. According to TNM stage,29belonged to Ⅰ-Ⅱ, and44belonged to Ⅲ-Ⅳ, respectively. Immunohistochemical SP and RT-PCR were used to examine the expression of ALDH1in the tumor and its adjacent tissue.Results:1.The positive rate of ALDH1was79.4%in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma tissue, while it was33.3%in the adjacent tissue, with a significant difference (P<0.05).2. The expression levels of ALDH1protein and mRNA in the intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma tissues were closely related to their clinical stages, lymph node metastasis and differentiations.3. The prognosis of ALDH1negative patients was much better than the positive patients. Conclusion:The overexpression of ALDH1plays a key role in the development and progression of intrahepatic cholangiocarcioma, and ALDH1may be a new tumor marker for intrahepatic cholangiocarcioma.
