Object: Bone morphogenetic proteins are the subfamily of Transforming GrowthFactor–β superfamily, and there are14members that have been discovered. AlthoughBMP-3is a part of the BMP family, it is very different from other members in terms offunction and structure. On the level of Nucleic acid combination, there is only a40%structural similarity between it and other BMPs, which possess the ability of boneinduction. BMP-3reduces the rate of bone reformation through the inhibition of otherBMPs. The object of this experiment is to observe the BMP-3’s express level in theorthodontic tooth movement module, in order to discover the potential impact on boneremodeling.Method: Selected21SD mice, which fell in the criteria, male, weighing between180g-220g, aged around8weeks. We randomly divided these mice evenly into7groups,which we named day1, day3, day5, day7, day14, day21, and day28. For the purposesof making orthodontic tooth movement animal modules, mini screws were adopted asanchorage, a Ni-Ti coil spring was utilized to misally distract upper left first molars; theupper right first molars were used as control groups. The mice were killed at certainpoint in time, and then the tissue was preserved by immersing it into paraformaldehyde. The tissue was then stained with HE solution in order to observe the histologicalchanges in periodontal tissue. Through the approach of immunohistochemical assay todetect the expression of BMP-3, and the data was then analyzed by SPSS.Result: The positive expression of BMP-3was detected and observed in theperiodontal tissue and the alveolar bone which is around the teeth that were relocated bymeans of the orthodontic procedure, and allocated specifically in terms of time. Theexpression level was increased at the beginning, and reached its peak at day14. A stronglink has been noticed between BMP-3and BMP-2by analyzing their data. Conclusion: Based on the result of the expression of BMP-3in the periodontaltissue, it can be concluded that BMP-3is involved in the physiological activity of bone remodeling, and acts as an antagonist in order to prevent the occurrence of theovergrowth of the alveolar bone.
