ObjectiveTo evaluate the feasibility and safety of laparoscopy-assisted totalmesorectal excision by the comparison of the therapeutic efficacy of thelaparoscopy-assisted and open surgery for rectal cancer.MethodsThe study is a retrospective analysis of73rectal cancer patients’clinicaldata from January2011to December2012.The patients were divided into twogroups according to the type of the surgery:laparoscopic surgery group and opensurgery group. The data of the following parameters were analysised: surgicalindex(the operation time, mean operative blood loss, the length of theoperative),post operative recovery index(the postoperative ambulation, therecovery of gastrointestinal function, the hospitalization),tumor radical resectionindex(the number of lymph nodes removed, the resection margin and the positivesurgical margin rate).Results26cases were operated by laparoscopy while47cases were treated by opensurgery, all surgery were successful. There was no significant difference in thenumber of lymph nodes removed, the resection margin and the positive surgicalmargin rate between the two group. There was difference in the number of thepostoperative ambulation, the recovery of gastrointestinal function, thehospitalization between the two groups. The operative time of the laparoscopygroup was longer than the laparotomy group, and the difference waseffective. The bleeding volume of laparoscopy group was less than thelaparotomy group, and the difference was effective. The length of the surgical specimen between the two groups had obvious difference.Conclusions1.The laparoscopic surgery for rectal cancer was safe and feasible.2.In short-term outcomes, the laparoscopic surgery group has moreadvantage than the open surgery group for rectal cancer.3.The laparoscopic surgery has a lower rate of postoperative complicationsfor rectal cancer.
