Objective: Ankle brachial index (ABI) and cardio-anklevascular index (CAVI),well-established non-invasive techniques forevaluating obstruction and stiffness of peripheral arteryrespectively, are considered for the important purposes ofcardiovascular risk assessment. The objective of this study is toevaluate the impacts of ABI and CAVI on the extent ofcoronary heart disease (CHD).Methods:Patients were selected randomly from wards ofCardiovascular Department, Chongqing medical university Firstaffiliated Hospital from june2012to November2012,they hadcoronary angiography(CAG),due to being suspected coronary heartdisease. Patients were stratified into four groups based on CAG.Results: Coronary angiography negative group(n=39), mild lesionsgroups(A group,n=31),moderate and severe lesions groups(Bgroup,n=57),then A group and B group were merged to be Dgroup;88coronary angiography positive patients were stratified into three groups based on extent of stenosis:single-vessle group(n=22), double-vessel group(n=26),three-vessle group(n=40).They all hadCAG,ABI and CAVI data available. Then we analysis thedifferences of ABI and CAVI among those groups. Results:1) ABIvalues were significantly different among Coronary angiographynegative group、A group and B group,ABI values reduced asthe severity of stenosis aggravating;CAVI values in D group weresignificantly higher than A group, but CAVI values had nosignificantly differences among those sub-groups.2) In thecomparision among those sub-groups stratified based as extentof stenosis,ABI values were significantly differences betweenevery sub-group and Coronary angiography negative group, butthere were no significantly differences among everysub-group;CAVI values did not arise as the extent of stenosisaggravating.conclusion: ABI reflects the severity of coronary arterystenosis and is non-invasive, but can not reflect the extent ofcoronary artery stenosis;CAVI can not reflect neither theseverity nor the extent of coronary artery stenosis.
