Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of vascular interventional therapyin managements of osteosarcoma,Wilms tumor, hepatoblastoma and hugemixed hemangiomas which cannot be resected completely during stageⅠ.Methods: To analyze the clinical records of the41hospitalizedchildren of solid tumors which cannot be resected during stageⅠfrom Aug2005to Aug2011retrospectively. All of them underwent vascularinterventional therapy, including5cases of osteosarcoma,7cases of Wilmstumor,4cases of hepatoblastoma,25cases of huge mixed hemangioma. The shrinkage of solid tumors between pre-operation and post-operationwas compared. And the short-term clinical effect was observed. Results: Sixteen cases of malignant solid tumor (osteosarcoma,Wilmstumor, hepatoblastoma) underwent once to three times of vascularinterventional therapy. The reduction of osteosarcomas in volume was24.9%~36.5%,and mean shrinkage was25.7%.The reduction of Wilmstumors in volume was18.8%~36.9%,and mean shrinkage was25.3%. Thereduction of hepatoblastomas in volume was43.3%~54.9%,and mean shrinkage was50.0%.The follow-up periods were seven months tosixty-nine months. The success rate of radical surgery was87.5%and theevent-free survival rate was75%. It showed the death of two cases.Moreover,25cases with huge mixed hemangioma were cured by once tofour times of vascular interventional therapy. The reduction of huge mixedhemangioma in volume was44.3%~100%,and mean shrinkage was69.4%.The follow-up periods were three months to sixty-one months. Theeffective rate reached96%.Conclusion: For the osteosarcoma,Wilms tumor and hepatoblastomawhich cannot be resected radically during stageⅠ, the pre-operativetreating course was shortened by using vascular interventional therapy.Thetumor shrinkage rate is related to the characteristics of tumor cells, tumorblood supply and interventional treatment times, after interventionaltherapy. The technology of vascular interventional therapy is a safe andeffective modality. It can be used as a preoperative therapeutic method inosteosarcoma,Wilms tumor and hepatoblastoma which cannot be resectedradically during stageⅠ. Also it is considered as a preferred modality incuring huge mixed hemangiomas.
