Objective: To investigate the relevance between serum fibroblastgrowth factor-21(FGF21) level and osteoporosis in maintenancehemodialysis patients. Methods: This study involved a total of46maintenance hemodialysispatients. All the patients were grouped according to bone mineral densitymeasurement results to two groups, namely ESRD group(n=34) and ESRDwith osteoporosis group(n=12). And15osteoporosis patients and10healthy volunteers were enrolled in this study as control. Age, gentle, bodymass index were taken from all the subjects. All the subjects’ serumFGF-21, PTH, Calcium and phosphorus levels were determined.Results:1. In comparison with healthy volunteers, ESRD group’sserum FGF21level was significantly higher(p<0.05).2. Serum FGF21level in ESRD with osteoporosis group was markly higher than the pureESRD group(p<0.05).3. Serum FGF21level in ESRD with osteoporosisgroup was higher than the pure osteoporosis group(p<0.05).Conlusion: Maintenance hemodialysis patients serum FGF21level isobviously higher than the normal group, and has a correlation withosteoporosis, indicating that FGF21may be involved in the pathologicalprocess of osteoporosis in ESRD patients. |
