Objectives To explore the correlations of type2diabetes mellitus complicating osteoporosis and TCM syndromes distributions by a medical records survey study. Methods The medical type2diabetes mellitus patients’ records which contained the examination of dual energy X-ray bone density have been surveyed during August2012and March2013in endocrinology department of the affiliated hospital of Cheng Du University of TCM. All the patients’records have been classified to diabetes mellitus and osteoporosis (DOP) group and diabetes mellitus and osteoporosis (NDOP) group involving the syndromes of TCM contained Liver and kidney deficiency, yin and yang deficiency and qi stagnation with blood stasis. The correlations of TCM syndromes, courses of disease, ages, genders, HbAlc, BMI, serum Ca, serum P, AKP,CHOL, TG, LDL-C, HDL-C, etc. in both two groups have been analyzed.Results206records have been included, with127DOP and79NDOP. The syndrome of Liver and kidney deficiency is the most common in DOP group while in NDOP group is yin and yang deficiency, and the two distributions have significant differences(p<0.01). Besides, there are also significant differences of the examination indexes like HbAlc, BMI, serum Ca, AKP, LDL-C between the two groups(p<0.05). However, genders, serum P, TG, LDL-C, HDL-C, and complicating diseases of nephropathy or fatty liver, which show no significant differences (p>0.05) in the two groups. Further logistic analysis shows HbAlc and ages are the risk factors of DOP, while the protective factors are BMI and LDL-C.Conclusion Liver and kidney deficiency is the most common syndrome in DOP and yin and yang deficiency in NDOP. DOP risk factors are genders, serum P, TG, LDL-C and HDL-C, while the protective factors are BMI and LDL-C.
