| Background and objective Bronchial asthma is one of the most common chronic disease in respiratory department. It is airway chronic inflammatory diseases which composed with a variety of cells and celluar elements, including airway inflammatory cells and structural cells (mast cells, smooth muscle cells, eosinophils, airway epithelial cells, T lymphocytes, neutrophils, etc.) and cellular components. Patients who suffer from asthma in all types, severity and every disease period contained with inflammation. Recent study found that Thl/Th2imbalance is an important etiological factor in the immunological pathogenesis of airway inflammation. IL-25is a cytokine produced by Th2cells, and eosinophils is most active cells in allergic diseases. Eosinophil cationic protein (ECP) is the most important protein in eosinophilic cytoplasm, which is an important indicator in the onset of allergic diseases. This study is to explore the changes of ECP and IL-25and their role in the pathogenesis of asthma using monitor the expression of IL-25and eosinophils cationic protein (ECP) in serum of asthma patients. Methods Venous blood specimens of30asthma patients with acute episode (episode group),30asthma patients with remission (remission group) and30healthy subjects (control group) were collected. Double antibody sandwich ELISA method was used to determine and compare serum levels of IL-25and ECP. Pulmonary function was measured in the episode group. Results Serum IL-25in episode group was(50.35±4.37ng/L), which was markedly higher than that in remission group (28.09±6.96ng/L) and control group (26.24±5.12ng/L), and there was significant difference (P<0.05), but there was no significant difference between remission group and control group (P>0.05). Serum ECP in episode group was (13.72±1.40ug/L), which was markedly higher than that in remission group (4.47±2.01ug/L) and control group (2.01±1.47ug/L), and there was significant difference (P<0.05), but there also significant difference between remission group and control group (P>0.05). Serum IL-25in episode group had a positive correlation with ECP (r=0.693, P <0.01).There were negative correlation between the serum IL-25ã€ECP and FEV1ã€PEF.Conclusion Serum levels of IL-25and ECP in asthma adults can respond the inflamemation activities and severity of airway in asthma. There is a positive correlation between IL-25and ECP in asthma with acute episode. |
