Objective To evaluate the impact between home enteral nutrition andhospital enteral nutrition in patients with intestinal fistula.Methods A clinical trail containing43patients of intestinal fistulawith enteral nutrition was conducted. All the cases were divided into3groups:home enteral nutrition group (n=22),hospital enteral nutritiongroup (n=21) and the normal control group (n=20,) assessment of qualityof life).Hospitalization duration, days of enteral nutrition and medical costswere compared between two enteral nutrition ways. Quality of life wasassessed through SF-36at the same time.Results1The nutrition status,body composition and biochemical indicators inthe peripheral blood,which no significant difference between two groups atthe beginning of enteral nutrition support.However,there were improved butno difference between both groups after enteral nutrition support.2The day of enteral nutrition were no significant difference betweentwo groups.The Home enteral nutrition support patients had60.23±8.48day of hospital–stay much lower compared with hospital enteral nutritionsupport patients115.38±31.01.The total medical cost of Home enteralnutrition support patients was much lower compared with hospital enteralnutrition support patients.3Quality of life scores was no significant differences between two groups patients at the beginning of enteral nutrition support.Physiological function score was much improved after enteral nutrition support(84.32±6.42vs78.81±11.39),while social function (59.32±14.02vs40.6±7.54) and mental health (56.49±5.59vs50.68±5.83) was improved much more in Home enteral nutrition support patients than hospital patients.4The two groups of patients in the process of enteral nutrition supportwas no significant difference in the incidence of complications(P=0.477).Conclusion1Home enteral nutrition support can improve nutritional status inpatients with intestinal fistula compared with hospital enteral nutritionsupport, which is safe, rational and effective way.2Home enteral nutrition support would reduce days of hospital-stayand medical cost compared with hospital enteral nutrition support.3Home enteral nutrition support patient’s quality of life issignificantly higher than the hospital enteral nutrition support patients.
