Objective:to compare the teaching quality and effects of the constructivism learning theory-based pedagogy with the traditional teaching method and explore the effect of critical thinking with applying the constructivism learning theory-based pedagogy in Introduction to Nursing of junior college education nursing students.Methods:the research was done on two classes which composed of totally69nursing students enrolled into medical college of Hubei institute of technology in2011,among them,tested class composed of34students,controlled class composed of35students.The tested class choose the constructivism learning theory-based pedagogy based on the actual teaching content,while the controlled class choose the traditional teaching method which has a center of lecture method.To observe the effects of teaching method and critical thinking ability of nursing students after applying the constructivism learning theory-based pedagogy in Introduction to Nursing by written examination,questionnaires of teaching effect evaluation and CTDI-CV.The data was analyzed by SPSS18.0.Results:(1)compare of the written examination scores:the two groups were differed greatly in application question(t=3.389,p<0.01) and general scores(t=-3.289, p<0.01),but they has no significant difference in terms of other objective questions(t=0.121~1.055, p>0.05).(2)Results of the CTDI-CV scores:the two groups has no significant difference in terms of general scores and the scores of each factor(t=-1.914~0.173,p>0.05) before teaching,but they differed greatly in general scores (t=-3.256, p<0.01) and scores of finding the truth,open-mindedness,systematic ability,critical thinking self-confidence, cognitive matu-rity (t=-2.876~-2.066, p<0.05) after teaching.The students who achieved positive critical thinking ability in tested class increased significantly after teaching,and the difference was statistically significant (Fisher’s exact P=2.652×10-5<0001).(3)Results of the teaching effects questionnaires:the two groups has no significant difference in terms of creativity ability improvements(t=1.44,P>0.05),but traditional teaching method has a higher scores than the constructivism learning theory-based pedagogy in terms of time reasonableness,the differences were statistically significant(t=4.97,p<0.01),and the constructivism learning theory-based pedagogy has a higher scores than the traditional teaching method in the rest 16items,the differences were significant(t=3.79~10.54,P<0.01).Conclusion:the constructivism learning theory-based pedagogy is superior to the traditional teaching method obviously in Introduction to Nursing which has three advantages in improving the teaching effect and quality,the various abilities of nursing students and critical thinking ability of nursing students,in the course of applying the constructivism learning theory-based pedagogy,there are a lot of inadequacies which need more nursing educators to continue exploring so as to achieve better effects.
