Objective:The study aimed to describe the situation of self-directed learning ability, critical thinking and general self-efficacy among undergraduate nursing students;to compare the differences of self-directed learning ability, critical thinking and general self-efficacy in students' general information;to analyze the correlation among self-directed learning ability, critical thinking and general self-efficacy;to explore the influencing factors of self-directed learning ability among undergraduate nursing students and propose countermeasures to provide references for further teaching reform and cultivation of undergraduate nursing students. Methods:A total of 221 undergraduate nursing students were recruited to do a questionnaire survey, which included the general self-designed questionnaire, the scale of the ability of self-directed learning in nursing undergraduates, the Chinese version scale of critical thinking ability(CTDI-CV)and the general self-efficacy scale.Data were analyzed by using SPSS for windows version 19.0 software.Descriptive statistics was used to describe the situation of self-directed learning ability, critical thinking and general self-efficacy among undergraduate nursing students.Univariate analysis was used to evaluate the differences of self-directed learning ability, critical thinking and general self-efficacy in students' general information.Pearson correlation analysis was used to examine the relationship between two of the self-directed learning ability, critical thinking, general self-efficacy among students;Stepwise multiple regression analysis was used to explore the influencing factors of self-directed learning ability among undergraduate nursing students.Results:1.The total score of self-directed learning ability among the undergraduate nursing students was 104.91±7.72.The average score of each dimension from the highest to lowest was: self-management(3.69±0.36),learning motivation(3.49±0.43),information ability(3.37±0.59)and collaboration learning(3.24±0.73).In self-directed learning ability, statistically significant differences were found in undergraduate nursing students with different grades, different place of birth, different the first choice of the college entrance examination, different part-time experience and activities experience(P<0.05).2.The total score of critical thinking among the undergraduate nursing students was 277.51±22.58.The score of each dimension from the highest to lowestwas: maturity of judgement(42.75±6.31),inquisitiveness(41.58±5.93),analytical ability(39.82±6.42),the self-confidence of critical thinking(39.00±6.64),systematization capacity(38.90±6.11),open-mindedness(38.73±6.15)and truth-seeking(36.71±6.44).In critical thinking, statistically significant differences were found in undergraduate nursing students with different grades, different place of birth, different the first choice of the college entrance examination, different part-time experience and activities experience(P<0.05).3.The score of general self-efficacy was 2.65±0.32,which was less than the international norm(2.95±0.53).In general self-efficacy,there were statistically significant difference in undergraduate nursing students with different grades and different part-time experience(P<0.05).4.Pearson correlation analysis showed that the total score of self-directed learning ability, learning motivation,self-management and information ability were positively associated to the total score of critical thinking among undergraduate nursing students(r=0.163~0.455,p<0.05);the total score of self-directed learning ability and its each dimension were positively associated to the score of general self-efficacy(r=0.134~0.307,p<0.05);the total score of critical thinking was positively associated to the score of general self-efficacy(r=0.356,p<0.01).5.Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that critical thinking, place of birth, general self-efficacy and grade were positively predictive factors of self-directed learning ability among undergraduate nursing students, which in total explained 30% of the total variance of self-directed learning ability.Conclusions:1.Self-directed learning ability among the samples was in the middle level. The self-directed learning ability of senior students, urban students, students whoes first choice of the college entrance examination were nursing major and students with part-time experience and activities experience was better.2.Critical thinking among the samples was was in the middle level.The.critical thinking of senior students, urban students, students whoes first choice of the college entrance examination were nursing major and students with part-time experience and activities experience was better.3.General self-efficacy among the samples was in the middle level, which was less than international norm. The general self-efficacy of senior students and students with part-time experience and activities experience was better.4.Undergraduate nursing students' self-directed learning ability was positively associated to critical thinking and general self-efficacy.And their critical thinking was positively associated to general self-efficacy.5.Critical thinking, place of birth, general self-efficacy and grade were predictive factors of self-directed learning ability among undergraduate nursing students.
