Calcium phosphate glass-ceramics has excellent cellular compatibility and biological activity, but the poor mechanical properties restricts its clinical application, while zirconia is a good material with good biocompatibility, mechanical properties and toughening. So recently the composite material of calcium phosphate glass ceramics and zirconia become a hot research spot. The clour of composite material close to white, while nature tooth’s is in range of the mixing of red and yellow. With the quest of beauty and clour of composite material coming nearing nature’s, we used the nitrate of Ce to color the composite ceramics, toughen with zirconia to make sure glass ceramics using in practical application.In this study, we synthesized calcium phosphate glass-ceramic powders by sol-gel, and synthetised calcium phosphate glass-ceramic powders with zirconia. After sintering, defocussed the sintering and mechanical performance of composite ceramic materials. Analysis of the sintering temperature、soaking time and the composition ratio of calcium phosphate with zirconia composite to mechanical property of materials, synthesized the performance data to determine the appropriate compound proportion. Then prepared calcium phosphate glass-ceramic powders with cerium by sol-gel, and characterized the component and morphology. The Ce-doped calcium phosphate glass-ceramic powders with zirconia were mixed. the effects of sintering temperature and the quantity of Ce on the material phase, morphology, line shrinkage rate, density and hardness were studied. The fraction and ratio of Ce were decided by the sintering performance, the hardness and the color of composite.When the fraction of zirconia was50wt%, the sintering temperature was1300℃, the line shrinkage reached18.04%, the density was Through researching the properties of calcium phosphate/zirconia ceramic, one know that the3.34g·cm-3, three point bending strength was530.74MPa, elastic modulus was112.84GPa and the fracture toughness was4.38MPa·m1/2, the calcium phosphate/zirconia ceramic we achieved had excellent performance. Through the research on the phase of Ce-calcium phosphate glass ceramic, the particle size increased with the decrease of concentration of Ce. In addition, the degree of color were also studied. When the concentration of Ce was3mol%-6mol%, the color of composite was similar to Vita ceramic from German. While the concentration of zirconia was50wt%, the sintering temperature was1300℃and the concentration of Ce was3mol%, the line shrinkage can attained14.46%. At that time, the density was92.5%, the hardness was4.23GPa and the index of machinable was0.84μm-1, the materials we got had the well machinability which is close to the dental enamel.
