[Objective] To understand the prevalence, awareness, outpatient, treatment and controlrate of hypertension and explore its influence factors among the residents over35years oldin Huangmei, Hubei. To evaluate quality of life (QOL) among patients with hypertension.[Methods] Using multi-stage random cluster sampling method,1954migrants inHuangmei were investigated with questionnaire survey and physical examination fromApril1st,2012to April30th,2012in Huangmei. The questionnaire included basicdemographic information, health related behaviors, QOL and the prevalence status ofhypertension. Physical examination included height, weight, systolic blood pressure(SBP)and diastolic blood pressure(DBP). Logistic regression analysis was used to explore theinfluence factors of hypertension.[Results](1) The prevalence and the standardized rate of hypertension among the residentsover35years old in Huangmei, Hubei province was34.1%and22.4%, respectively. Theprevalence of hypertension was21.3%in male and30.0%in female. The awareness, treatment, outpatient and control rate of hypertension was64.0%,58.3%,49.2%and24.9%, respectively.(2) Analysis of single factor and muti-factor showed that female andmore average daily smoking amount were risk factors, while high culture degree wasprotect factor for hypertension.(3) Compared with non-hypertensive residents, patients with hypertension had lower quality of life scores on physical fitness, emotion, socialcommunication, daily activity, overall health, change in health and pain aspects domains.Systolic-diastolic hypertension (SDH) and (isolated systolic hypertension) ISH had poorerQOL scores when compared with isolated diastolic hypertension (IDH). Limited daily life, bad overall health condition and body pain were the common problems for all patients withhypertension.[Conclusions] Although the prevalence of hypertension among the residentsover35years old in Huangmei was lower than most studies in the country, the control ratewas still not high. It is suggested that prevention oriented non-drug treatment forhypertension should be promoted actively. Education propaganda and health behaviorintervention should be improved. The residents should be encouraged to quit smoking anddrink less, reduce salty food consumption, rational diet and physical exercise. To improvethe QOL of patients with hypertension especially those with ISH and SDH, measures tocontrol hypertension should be well fulfilled and the blood pressure of hypertensionpatients should be controlled to an ideal level.
