Objective To explore the signifiance of the level change of serum leptinand adiponectin before and after treatment in patients with heart failure. Methods Sixty patients with heart failure were randomly divided into twogroups: the conventional treatment group (n=30) and the Metoprolol treatmentgroup (n=30), The conventional treatment group was given basic treatment, including cardiotonic drug, diuretics,ACEI or ARB,nitrate and so on.Besidesbasic treatment, the Metoprolol treatment group was also given Metoprolol,andselected40healthy person as control group. Serum leptin, adiponectin,BNPlevels and left ventricular function were analysed the first24hours afteradmission and6weeks after treatment.Results1)The blood pressure and serum leptin BNP in heart failure patients wassignificantly higher than that of the controls.2)There were no differences inpatients with heart failure caused by different pathogenys(P>0.05).3)Theserum leptin and adiponectin increased with the increase of degree of heartfailure.4)The serum leptin,adiponectin、IL-6levels were positively correlatedwith BNP levels and were negatively correlated with LVEF levels.5)After6week’s treatment, controlled heart rate and blood pressure, improved LVEF anddecreased serum leptin, adiponectin and BNP levels were seen in both theconventional treatment group and the Metoprolol treatment group, significanewas found in Metoprolol treatment group(P<0.05).Conclusion The level of serum leptin and adiponectin is avaluable negative index to indicate the severity of heart failure. Additional Metoprolol onconventional medication basis can not only lower the serum serum leptin andadiponectin but also improve cardiac function.
