Objective:The objective of this investigation is to find out the independent effects of3-6MT exercise training on leptin and leptin receptor levels in obese children, as well as the relationship between physical activity, leptin and leptin receptor level among overweight and obese children. Methods:The subjects were127students including61males and66females at six elementary schools, whose age were from8to12years old. The subjects were randomly assigned to two following conditions for3mo:1) the control group2) the trained group. Energy expenditure during the physical training sessions was estimated by using pedometer. The level of leptin and leptin receptor were tested by ELISA. Results:(1) After physical activity intervention, BMI was significantly reduced in the trained group(p<0.05).(2) No statistically significant different changes were found in leptin level between the trained and the control group(P>0.05).(3) The trained group had significantly lowered leptin levels after3mo of exercise training among females.(P<0.01)(4) There was significant positive correlation between leptin and leptin receptor among boys (r=0.596; P=0.001), but the P-values of girls were more than0.05.(5) There was negative correlation between leptin and all of the data of physical activity on weekdays, while the P-values of boys were more than0.05, but the girls were less than0.01.(6) Concerning the correlation between leptin receptor and all of the data of physical activity, neither the boys nor the girls had the significant P-values.Conclusion:It was suggested that we could improve obesity through3-6MT regular exercise training and enhancing the leptin sensitivity.
