Application Distal Radius Periosteal Flap In The Treatment Of Old Scaphoicl Fracture

Objective:To study the efficacy of AO lag screw combined with distal radius periosteal flap in the treatment of old scaphoid fracture.Methods:From October2007to June2011,11patients of scaphoid nonunion which consisted of8waist nonunion cases and3proximal nonunion cases were treated with AO lag screw combined with distal radius periosteal flap. Patients were evaluated with postoperative X-rays, time of fracture healing, wrist pain and range of motion.Results:10patients were followed up. The mean period of follow up was12months. The scaphoid nonuion were healed in all the cases. The average time of healing was12weeks and wrist pain disappeared. According to modified Mayo wrist scoring system the results were excellent in7cases, good in2cases and fair in1case.Conclusions:The technique of AO lag screw combined with distal radius periosteal flap can promote the healing of scaphoid nonunion, especially for the early stable cases.
