Objective: The research of the children’s neurocognitive function changes after thirdventriculostomy of hydrocephalus. Methods: Retrospective analysis of the medical filesof43cases of children with hydrocephalus, including the endoscopic thirdventriculostomy of20cases (Operation Group). The data regarding CT/MRI, EEG,SPECT, developmental quotient(DQ) before and after surgery were studied. Evaluation ofthe children after surgery neurocognitive function recovery time and degree effect.Surgery is not done in23cases(without operation group), in which developmentalquotient(DQ) is measured after two weeks,2month and6months of the diagnosis. Results: The two groups after2month and6months of operation were compareddevelopmental quotient difference were significant(P<0.05). In operation group:2monthand6months after operation compared with the preoperative developmental quotientdifference were significant(P<0.01), operation group developmental quotient(DQ)valueshows ascendant trend change(P<0.01). Postoperative ventricle size compared with thepreoperative does not change significantly. The EEG abnormal rate, ECT cerebral bloodperfusion imaging compared with preoperative difference were significant(P<0.01), witha statistical significance. Conclusion: Children after ETV can make neurocognitivefunction recovery, postoperative ventricular size change and improve is not obvious.
