The research is aimed to provide thebasis for formulating the corresponding health intervention measures, improvingmedical health services, promoting the quality of life in patients with breast cancerand their physical and mental health development.MethodsTwo hundred and twenty-four breast cancer patients were enrolled in HunanProvincial Tumor Hospital from April to June2012and investigated with the generalinformation questionnaire, FACT-B, HHI and MCMQ. Using the statistical softwareSPSS17.0analyzes the patients’general information, quality of life, hope level andcoping style. The statistical methods includes: descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA,Pearson correlation and multivariate of stepwise regression analysis.Results1. The quality of life of hospitalized patients with breast cancerThe mean score of the quality of life for224breast cancer patients is(85.19±13.86)points. The functional areas get the lowest with(7.75±5.10)points,whereas the additional areas get the highest with (25.36±4.14)points. In the field ofphysical、social/family and emotional, the score respectively is(21.33±4.71)points,(13.36±5.69)points and(17.30±3.47)points.2. The level of hope with breast cancer patients in hospitalThe average score of the hope for224breast cancer patients is(38.17±3.01).The score range from29points to48points. The patients’ overall level of hope is atthe middle to high level. The medium hope levels have19cases (8.48%) and the high hope levels have205cases (91.52%).3. The coping style of hospitalized breast cancer patients224breast cancer patients use a variety of coping styles. Taking “to face” as themain coping style (20.49±1.3); taking “to avoid”(15.30±1.92) at least;“to yield”(9.58±1.52) is between and them.4. The influential factors of hospitalized patients with breast cancerANOVA analysis shows that: family relationship, side reaction, the averagefamily income, tumor recurrence or metastasis, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, marriage quality and clinical stage have different influence to quality of life patientswith breast cancer in hospital.5. The relevance between patients’ quality of life and their hope levelPearson related analysis shows that the patients’ overall quality of life arepositively correlated with the level of hope and its three dimensions (r=0.470,0.498,0.262,0.481. P<0.01). Patients’ positive attitudes toward reality and futureare positively correlated with social/family, emotional and functional fields(r=0.544,0.168,0.545,P<0.05);Patients’ attitude to positive action is positivelycorrelated with social/family and functional areas (r=0.374,0.420, P<0.01);Patients’ attitude to maintaining close relations with other people is positivelycorrelated with social/family, emotional and functional area(sr=0.516,0.207,0.550,P<0.01).6. The correlation between quality of life and coping styles of patientsPearson related analysis shows that “to face”and “to avoid” approach ispositively correlated with their overall quality of life(r=0.299,0.236,P<0.01);“Toyield” method is negatively correlated with the whole quality of life(r=-0.607,P<0.01).“To face”approach is positively correlated with social/family and functionalfield(r=0.446,0.320,P<0.01).“To avoid” approach is positively correlated withwith social/family and functional field(r=0.432,0.387,P<0.01).“To yield”approach is negatively correlated with physical, emotional, functional and additionalfield(r=-0.552,-0.534,-0.178,-0.610,P<0.01).7. Multivariate of stepwise regression analysis of factors affecting breast cancer patients’ quality of life.Multivariate of stepwise regression analysis shows that: The importantinfluential factors of quality of life with breast cancer are marriage quality, clinicalstage,“to yield” coping styles and the whole level of hope.Conclusion1. The patients’ whole level of quality of life and hope is at the middle to highlevel. The patients’ overall quality of life is positively correlated with the level ofhope. Hope that the higher level, the higher of patient’s quality of life.2. The patients hospitalized with breast cancer adopt a variety of coping styles, and the way of “to face” is the most; Taking “to avoid” at least;“to yield” is betweenand them.“To face”and “to avoid” approach is positively correlated with theiroverall quality of life, but “to yield” approach is negatively correlated with it.3. These are important factors affecting the patients on their quality of life, suchas marriage quality, clinical stage,“to yield” coping styles and the whole level ofhope.
