ObjectiveMiRNA-184is one of the common miRNAs which expression changes in the nervous system diseases.Previous studies have showed that miRNA-184was significantly increased in the brain tissue of patients with epilepsy. While,it plays an important role in the process of the anti-apoptosis and promoting proliferation of neural stem cells. This study compared the expression of miRNA-184in the cerebrospinal fluid and in the peripheral blood Serum between the patients epilepsy and control. To explore the body fluids has an important role in the process of epilepsy.MethodsA total of39patients withepilepsyand39non-epileptic patients were studied. We detected expression of miRNA-184in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and peripheral blood serum samples from the epileptic or non-epileptic patienrs by fluorescence quantitative real-time PCR.ResultsThe mean expression of CSF miRNA-184in the epileptic group was significantly higher in the cerebrospinal fluid (P=0.011),however, the mean level of serum miRNA-184in the epileptic patients was significantly decreased compared with non-epileptic patients(P=0.029). In the patients with epilepsy, the change of miRNA-184in the cerebrospinal fluid and peripheral blood showed the opposite trend.ConclusionsThe study found that the expression of miRNA-184was very differential in the cerebrospinal fluid and peripheral blood serum afte seizures. The expression of miRNA-184was significantly increased in the cerebrospinal fluid, which consistent with miRNA-184was increased expression in brain tissue of epilepsy. The expression of miRNA-184in the blood serum was significantly lower than the control group. These findings suggest that:the expression of miRNA-184in the CSF and serum was contribute to theexpression of miRNA-184in brain tissue of patients with epilepsy and provides a new way for the study of epilepsy.
