ObjectivesThe purpose of this study is to assess the prevalence of elders’health literacy and health status in Yanbian area, and to analysis the correlation between health literacy and health, and finally to explore the influence factors that affecting health status, with a view of providing evidence for improving health literacy and health on elders.MethodsThis study is the correlation research of non-experimental study, we selected the multi-stage cluster convenience sampling method to choose the survey points and objects. There were urban and rural residents652people between60to80-year-old from Yanji, Tumen, Longjing. Of the total670questionnaires,652of them are usable, with an effective rate of97.3%.Research tools includes general population data, the questionnaire of health literacy (based on the questionnaire to2009Chinese citizens health literacy) and the health status scale (SF-12Health Survey).The data were coded and checked, then the SPSS17.0statistical software is used to analyze the data. Measurement data with x±s to describe, the hypothesis test using t test or ANOVA; count data with percent or composition ratio to describe, the hypothesis test using x2test. In alpha=0.05for inspection standards. Through the describe analysis, single factor analysis statistical analysis methods, understanding health literacy level and health status of the different characteristic people and discussing the main influence factors of health status.Results1.The overall level of health literacy for Yanbian area elder people is7.36%,the level of science of health literacy, infectious disease prevention literacy, chronic disease prevention literacy, safety and first aid literacy and basic medical literacy is40.03%、3.83%、14.26%、18.86%、20.29%respectively. The characteristics of highest the level of science of health literacy and the lowest level of infectious disease prevention literacy is common in the different characteristics of respondents.2.The respondents with different social demographic characteristics have different levels of health literacy, and the change trends of the level of health literacy on gender, age and culture degree between the urban and rural respondents are consistent with the total respondents.The survey showed that the level of health literacy of urban residents is higher than the villages and towns; The higher level of education the higher the proportion of health literacy; The respondents of high average monthly income have higher proportion of health literacy.3.The health status of respondents have a linear regression relation with the place to live to,age,marital status, and investigators have the chance to engaged in medical work or not, and among them, health literacy have the largest impact on health status.Conclusions1.The level of health literacy of the elders in Yanbian area is low, according to the standards of the Chinese residents’ health literacy survey report for the first time, among the elders residents, only7.36%have health literacy, and only14.26%,18.86%,3.83%have chronic disease prevention literacy, safety and security literacy, infectious disease prevention literacy, lower than other ages residents and the elderly in other regions.2.The factors affecting the health status are:live in city or in town, gender, age, marital status, work in the medical and health care, household resident population, health literacy. Cope with the elderly especially those with low cultural level and low-income increase publicity of health literacy.
