A Survey Of Eye-related Complains Among VDT Operators Of Shenyang Railway Administration

ObjectiveFirst，a survey of VDT operators of Shenyang Railway administration. Second, aanalysis of the signs and clinical examination results of VDT operators. Third, apromote of clinical treatment of VDT fatigue.MethodSelect318VDT operators who have eye-related complains and resort to our helpduring1Sep2011to12Nov2011,were divided into four groups and conducted thequestionnaire, slit lamp examination, Schirmer’s test，tear breakup time test, eniscustear lake examination and fluorescein corneal stain.ResultsFirstly, three hundred eighteen(318)respondents with a mean age of35.34±0.58and consisting of243(76.4%)males and75(23.6%)females that the ratio is3.2:1.Thelargest number of the total number is in20-29years old both with male and female。Thepercentage is40.74%and41.33%.The number of the results between men and womenhad no statistical significance through the variance test. Above all, there are115VDTsyndrome. It’s percentage is36.17%.Secondly, the top three eye-related complains were waist or neckpain(80.02%),dry eye(79.88%)and tiredness(59.43%).The duration of computer use wasstrongly correlated with the severity of the eye discomfort.Thirdly, VDT fatigue and Schirmer’s test，tear breakup time test, eniscus tear lakeexamination and fluorescein corneal stain was significantly correlated at0.01level.ConclusionOcular discomfort were prevalent among Shenyang Railway administration. Andthe Prevalence rate of VDT syndrome is36.17%.The main symptoms of VDT fatigue: waist or neck pain, dry eye, tiredness,eye itching,eye pain, Memory loss,blurring ofvision, Shed tears,headache, Insomnia, Bloodshot eyes, Diplopia, loss of appetite,Foreign body sensation.The survey of patients with reduced tear secretion and tear filminstability and MGD are the main reasons of eye-related complains.
