Objective:To evaluate carotid intima-medial thickness(IMT)and remodeling ofcarotid atherosclerosis of type2diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with diabeticretinopathy(DR)by high-frequency ultrasonography.Methods:A total of141patients with T2DM were divided into three groupsaccording to the type of DR,including group A(50cases, non-diabetic retinopa-thy,NDR),group B(50cases,non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy,NPDR)group C(41cases,proliferative diabetic retinopathy, PDR).50healthy subjects were enrolled ingroup D as normal control group. All T2DM patients and healthy subjects wereexamined with high-frequency ultrasound and T2DM patients were examined byfunduscope.The IMT,total vessel area(TVA),lumen area(LA),remodeling index(RI)andthe atheroslerotic plaques of carotid artery were observed.Results:The IMT of the trunk,bifurcation site of common carotid artery,theinternal carotid artery,the arerage IMT and the detection rate of plaques:group A、B andC were higher than those in group D(P<0.05).All the former data in group B and Cwere higher than those in group D(P<0.05) and those in group C were higher thangroup B(P<0.05).The number of vessels with multiple-plaques detection:group A、Band C were higher than those in group D(P<0.05).All the former data in group B andC were higher than those in group D(P<0.05),while there was no significant differencebetween group B and C.The remodeling rate of carotid atherosclerosis:group A、B andC were higher than those in group D(P<0.05).All the former data in group B and Cwere higher than those in group D(P<0.05) and those in group C were higher thangroup B(P<0.05).The remodeling type of carotid atherosclerosis between thegroups:the negative remodeling rate of group B and C was higher than that of group Aand D(P<0.05),while group C is more obvious than group B.There was no significant difference between group B and C,so was it between group A and D.The remodelingtype of carotid atherosclerosis within group:the rate of positive remodeling was higherthan that of negative remodeling in group A and D,while the rate of negativeremodeling was higher than that of positive remodeling in group B and C.Conclusion:High-frequency ultrasonography is a precise and integrated method inassessing carotid intima-medial thickness and remodeling of carotid atherosclerosis ofT2DM patients with DR accurately.
