Objective:The study aims at understanding the0~3-year-old infant and young child feeding and complementary feeding conditions,0~6-year-old children’s growth status and prevalence in Binhu District Wuxi in2008, to explore and evaluate the relationship between the feeding of the infant and young child in this region and growth, evaluate the quality of primary child health care, provide reference for child healthcare in this region, and provide the basis for carrying out effective interventions actively in the future.Methods:Extract the0-3years old children who undergo a medical examination in health and medical institutions at all levels of pediatric outpatient not from the nursery school in Binhu District Wuxi in2006-2010with stratified machine sampling according to the requirements of the age group, the children extracted would receive the diet questionnaire and physical development examination;23353children will be extracted the aged1to6who has entered the kindergarten study in Binhu District Wuxi in2006-2010with cluster sampling, the children extracted would receive the physical development test.Results:23,353Wuxi city children were surveyed. The male to female ratio was1.05:1, all ages boy’s physical indicators measured values are greater than the girls, there are significant gender differences (p<0.05); Binhu District1to6-year-old children’s height, weight (p<0.05), were increased with increasing age and the younger the faster it grows, the fastest growth rate in the first year, the slowdown in the growth of children after2years, showed a steady growth. Weight<2006, the median number of4.44%o,6.42per thousand in2007,5.71per thousand in2008,3.81per thousand in2009to5.86per thousand in2010. Binhu frail child detection rate in2006of10.4%,10.76%in2007to11.16%in2008to12.18%in2009to11.80%in2010, the management of the frail child was100%. The prevalence of severe anemia in the floating population, significantly higher than the resident population of nearly2-fold, but also showed an increasing trend. Children suffering from the disease, the top three were anemia accounted for68.49%(Male:69.34%Female:67.35%), respiratory infections accounted for23.74%(Male:25.67%Female:21.98%) and diarrhea accounted for7.19%(male:8.20%female:6.52%). Wuxi city growth and development status of children in2006to2010than WHO standards and indicators of growth and development of children under7years of age, but needs to be further improved. Feeding patterns mainly breastfed,67%higher than the2003UNICEF published, but there is a certain distance of the target of85%of the requirements from the Development of Chinese Children (2001-2010), the breastfeeding rate reached nearly two years downward trend.0to6days of early neonatal deaths, the number of deaths in all ages the highest causes of death and overall preterm or low birth weight, birth asphyxia, congenital heart disease, pneumonia, and accidental suffocation, and other congenital anomalies-Conclusion:The overall situation of children’s growth and development in Binhu in Wuxi in2006-2010needed to be improved. In the circumstances of economic developing in Wuxi, to raise the level of growth and development of children in the region, comprehensive interventions need to be taken:including the increasing concern of all sectors of society; Improve network construction and management of maternal and children health; Strength health care, early treat pregnant women diseases and timely process high-risk pregnancies; Strength fetal monitoring, to avoid fetal hypoxia; Promote ABCDE resuscitation, train production pediatric health care workers; Promote hospital delivery, the woman who makes hospital delivery should be subsidized, the delivery room will be equipped with resuscitation equipment; Strength education of children’s knowledge of growth and development; Enhance the early screening and treatment of disease; From the national laws and regulations to ensure and support breastfeeding for6months, improving maternal system management and health knowledge of propaganda and so on.
