Objective:To investigate the situation of myopia and visual quality in the pupils in Taiyuan area so as to provide data for my city’s myopia prevention screening model and provide basis for our city for the prevention of blindness. Methods:An epidemiological survey was carried out in2490pupils’ contrast sensitivity acuity of four middle schools in Taiyuan area in October2012.Results:In this investigation, there were2490students. The prevalence rate of myopia in junior was75.14%, and the senior was84.49%. The myopia positive rate of the higher grade pupils was higher than that of the lower grade ones, and the myopia positive rate of female pupils (80.30%) was higher than that of male pupils (76.49%). The evaluation results of visual quality were:fine (7.23%), early warming (10.68%), Strong warning (2.53%) and bad (79.56%). The ones whose visual function might be damaged made up a large proportion in all the students. The proportion of the results which were good, early warning and Strong warning decreased gradually with the increase of school age, while the proportion of the results which was bad increased gradually with the increase of school age. Conclusion:School age and gender are important factors for myopia. Survey of contrast visual acuity to the children in the middle school is helpful to find out and prevent myopia.
