Background and PurposeThe methods currently available for diagnosis and prognosis of cerebralaneurysm still require further improvements. Micro-RNAs (small non-coding RNAs)have been recently reported as useful biomarkers in cardiovascular andcerebrovascular diseases. We therefore carried out microRNA (miRNA) proiflingfrom peripheral blood to detect and identiyf characteristic patterns in cerebralaneurysm patients.MethodsGlobal miRNA proifles of80aneurysm patients and40controls weredetermined with the Agilent Human miRNA Microarray platform, and validated byquantitative PCR.ResultsA subset of22miRNAs were selectively expressed differentially in bothruptured and unreptured aneurysm patients? while another cohort of12miRNAswere specific in ruptured aneurysm patients.ConclusionsWe demonstrate that the peripheral blood miRNAs and their proifles can bedeveloped as biomarkers in diagnosis and prognosis of cerebral aneurysms.
