Objective: This Objective was to explore and analyse the change in angle of inferiorturbinate bone in the opposite side of nasal septum deviation by CT, aiming to providthe theory evidence for inferior turbinate outfracture technique.Methods:120coronal plane CT scans of the paranasal sinuses were divided into3groups:42cases with deviated nasal septum,49cases without deviated nasal septumwere29cases that underwent a septoplasty and outfracture to both inferior turbinatesby the same surgeon. Single out three slices which the anterior and middle portion ofthe inferior turbinates can optimally display, in which to draw the angle andcross-sectional area by hand and the data calculated by Start PACS SYSTEM willappear in computer screen automatically.Results:①In group with deviated nasal septum, the average angulation of inferiorturbinate bone in the opposite side of nasal septum deviation was65.063±11.238°and was52.191±9.571°in the same side. The difference was significant between twogroups(p<0.05). The average area of inferior turbinate in the opposite side of nasalseptum deviation was1.340±0.396cm~2and was0.725±0.494cm~2in the other side. The difference was significant between two groups(p<0.05).②In group withdeviated nasal septum, the average angulation of inferior turbinate bone in the sameside of nasal septum deviation was52.191±9.571°, and it was56.954±9.522°inright side of nasal septum deviation in group without deviated nasal septum. Thedifference was significant between two groups(p<0.05); In group with deviatednasal septum, the average angulation of inferior turbinate bone in the opposite side ofnasal septum deviation was65.063±11.238°, and it was56.954±9.522°in right sideof nasal septum deviation in group without deviated nasal septum. The difference wassignificant between two groups(p<0.05).③In surgery group that the preoperativeaverage angulation of inferior turbinate in the opposite side of nasal septum deviation was62.329±14.049°and was47.868±12.447°postoperatively. The difference wassignificant between two groups(p<0.05).The preoperative average angulation ofinferior turbinate in the same side of nasal septum deviation was52.355±11.583°and was46.134±0.396°postoperatively. The difference was significant between twogroups(p<0.05). The preoperative average total area of inferior turbinate in theopposite side of nasal septum deviation was1.278±0.411cm~2and was0.882±0.285cm2postoperatively. The difference was significant between two groups(p<0.05). Thepreoperative average total area of inferior turbinate in the same side of nasal septumdeviation was1.057±0.302cm~2and was0.793±0.246cm~2postoperatively. Thedifference was significant between two groups(p<0.05).Conclusions: Septal deviation can lead to an increase in volume of both mucosa andbone of the inferior turbinate, and can also cause the change in the angle between theinferior turbinate bone and the lateral wall of the nasal, which cause nasal obstruction.Patients who are tolerated by nasal septum with hyperplastic inferior turbinatecomplicated can be treat by outfracture of the inferior turbinate procedures, which candisplay a reduction in the angle and tankage and finally improve the mycteric venting.
