Objective: To evaluate the right ventricular(RV) function of patients with chronic cor pulmonaleby using two-dimensional speckle tracking imaging(2D-STI).Material and Methods: According to the clinical symptoms and the result of related clinicalexamination confirmed diagnosis of34cases of patients with chronic cor pulmonale as casesgroup(group A), and32cases of gender and age matched healthy volunteers as control group(group B). Two-dimensional echocardiography images were obtained form the RV apical4-chamber view and using the2D-strain software of Echo-PAC workstation to test themyocardial segments and global of RV longitudinal peak systolic strain, peak systolic strain rate, early diastolic strain rate, late diastolic strain rate, peak systolic velocity and displacement.Record the dates to quantitative analysis.Results:(1) The RV longitudinal peak systolic strain(LS) in all segments of lateral wall and theinterventricular septum were difference between group A and group B(P<0.05), these segmentsof group A were lower than that in the group B. The longitudinal peak systolic strain wasdifference among all3segments of the RV free wall and ventricular septum in the group A andgroup B, the highest one was basal RV lateral wall, and the lowest one was apical RV free wall. But the ventricular septum has not this law obviously.(2) The longitudinal peak systolic strainrate(LSRs), the longitudinal early diastolic strain rate(LSRe) and the longitudinal late diastolicstrain rate(LSRa) in group A were lower than group B at all segments of RV lateral wall andventricular septum(P<0.05). The LSRs,LSRe,LSRa of three segments of the RV lateral wall weredifference and the change rule like strain, and the basal free wall was biggest.(3) Thelongitudinal peak systolic velocity and displacement have difference between group A and groupB in all segments of the right ventricular wall, and group A were lower than group B.(4) Thestrain rates have been shown to be age-dependent in group A with an age-related decrease in theGLSRs, GLSRe and GLSRa. Similar age-related changes have been described in groupB(P<0.05). But the global longitudinal peak systolic strain(GLS) have no age-related in group Aand B(P>0.05).Conclusions:1. Using2D-STI to assessment of right ventricular myocardial function of chroniccor pulmonale found that patient’s global and regional systolic and diastolic function have a different degrees of damage.2. GLSRs, GLSRe and GLSRa of right ventricular is influenced byage with an age-related decrease in all this parameters, while the global longitudinal peaksystolic strain was not affected and showed no significant age-related changes.
