Objective:This thesis aims at analysing results of electroencephalogram (EEG) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for Ningxia rural epileptics, discussing correlation between EEG and MRI when localization of epilepsy induced lesion, thus to make reasonable and individualized treatment for each patient to reduce or even stop clinical seizures and improve living quality of epileptics.Methods:This thesis takes use of simple random sampling method, selecting208cases randomly from epileptics of Ningxia Rural Epilepsy Treatment Demonstrative Project. Conduct EEG and MRI examinations, combining retrospective analysis of patients’genetics including age and gender, past medical history, seizure representations, history of antiepileptic drugs, to analyze features of examination results.Results:141abnormal brain MRI cases is found (67.7%), while normal brain MRI cases is67(32.3%). Among structural abnormal cases,36cases are encephalomalacia,34cases are demyelinating diseases, and21cases are cerebral dysplasia. MRI representations for epileptics more than10years old are mainly congenital malformation. MRI representations for epileptics more than30years old are mainly hippocampal sclerosis and encephalomalacia. And for epileptics more than50years old, main representations are encephalatrophy and demyelinating diseases. Totally178abnormal EEG cases are found (85.6%), among which48cases (22.9%) are mildly abnormal while86cases (41.4%) are moderately abnormal and44cases (21.4%) are severely abnormal. Among normal group of MRI, EEG positive rate is77.6%. However, among abnormal group of MRI, EEG positive rate reaches89.3%. This shows significant difference through statistical test. Epileptiform discharge abnormal cases found after crania-cerebral MRI examination are58. Among which there are26cases (44.8%) whose original place of epileptiform discharge and structural abnormal places found by brain MRI are the same and32cases (55.2%) are of different places. There are35cases (60.3%) whose induced lesions of epileptiform discharge in brain MRI are at same side and12cases (20.7%) whose induced lesions of epileptiform discharge in brain MRI are at opposite sides. Among30cases of refractory epileptics, abnormal rate of EEG is93.3%and abnormal rate of MRI is66.7%. Among brain MRI abnormal cases,6cases are encephalomalacia,6cases are cerebral maldevelopment,3cases are demyelinating diseases and2cases are hippocampal sclerosis.Conclusion:The prevalence of Male with epilepsy was significantly higher than women in Ningxia rural, Disease incidence of the Children’s group is higher than that of the adult’s.The results of the different ages and types of seizures with brain MRI and EEG are different. The rate of the electrical activity of the brain and structural abnormalities with208epileptics is higher than reported in the literature.EEG is the basis of epilepsy diagnosis and guide therapy. MRI is first imaging examination choice of etiological diagnosis for epilepsy patients. EEG and MRI have certain correlation between each other. The rate of the electrical activity of the brain and structural abnormalities is high for refractory epilepsy patient’s.
