Objective To explore the related factors of primary common bile duct stones aftercholecystectomy.Compared differences between primary common bile duct stones group andno bile duct stones group after cholecystectomy in sex, age, body mass index(BMI),hypertension, diabetes mellitus, operation modes, triglyceride(TG), total cholesterol(TC), highdensity lipoprotein(HDL), low density lipoprotein(LDL) level, and calculated if it isstatistically significant, then determined which factors associated with primary common bileduct stone formation after cholecystectomy and assessed the strength of the association of relatedfactors about primary common bile duct stones after cholecystectomy. Methods The study retrospectively analyzed581patients treated previously aftercholecystectomy in Fujian Province-owned Hospital in October1,2002to September30,2012,among which there are173cases with common bile duct stones after cholecystectomy, and408cases without the occurrence of common bile duct stones after cholecystectomy.Notedgender, age,BMI,hypertension, diabetes, operation modes,TG,TC,HDL,LDL,classified andanalyzed these factors. It compared the differences between the two groups in gender, age, BMI,hypertension, diabetes, operation modes, hypertriglyceridemia, hypercholesteremia, low highdensity lipoprotein cholesterolemia, high low density lipoprotein cholesterolemia, and used thestatistical methods (Logistic regression) to calculate if the difference was statistically significant, and odds ratio (OR) to assess the strength of association of these factors about primary commonbile duct stones after cholecystectomy. Results (1) Among patients after cholecystectomy, the incidence of diabetes was higher incommon bile duct calculi group, when comparing with the group without common bile ductstones(33.53%vs24.02%), and the difference was statistically significant (p<0.05), OR=1.625;(2)Among patients after cholecystectomy, the proportion of undergoing open cholecystectomy(OC) was higher in common bile duct stones group, when comparing with the group without common bile duct stones(71.68%vs60.78%), and the difference was statistically significant(p<0.05), OR=1.593;(3) Among patients after cholecystectomy, common bile duct calculi grouphad a higher proportion of hypercholesteremia, when comparing with the group without commonbile duct stones(40.46%vs28.92%), and the difference was statistically significant (p<0.05),OR=1.596;(4) Among patients after cholecystectomy, there were no significant difference ingender, age, BMI, hypertension, hypertriglyceridemia, low high density lipoproteincholesterolemia, high low density lipoprotein cholesterolemia between common bile duct calculigroup and group without common bile duct stones(p>0.05).Conclusions Diabetes mellitus, OC, hypercholesterolemia might be risk factors of primarycommon bile duct stones after cholecystectomy. The strength of association between the threefactors and primary common bile duct stones after cholecystectomy was medium.Gender, age, body mass index (BMI), hypertension, hypertriglyceridemia, low high density lipoproteincholesterolemia, high low density lipoprotein cholesterolemia were probably not the riskfactors of primary common bile duct stones after cholecystectomy.
