Objective:The study was conducted in accordance with Technical Guideline for Traditional Chinese and Natural medicines on long-term Toxicity Study issued by SFDA in March,2005, to assess the one month toxicity of Shuanghuanglian Injection (also named as SHL) and to evaluate the nature of the drug via intravenous administration in Beagle dog, observe the potential toxic actions, identify the target organs or target tissues, and to provide related information of clinical rational drug use. Methods:All the animals were being randomly assigned to4groups of6with2in each gender, control group(0.9%sodium chloride only)and3dosed groups, low, middle and high dose groups respectively. The dogs in three test and control group were intravenously administered with Shuanghuanglian Injection daily for one month. During the administration periods, the skin, activities, feces properties of those animals were observed. Meanwhile the routine analysis of blood, clinical chemistry and routine were tested in different time points. Results:After a month treatment, the middle and high dosage groups can cause dogs the obvious symptoms of hemolytic anemia, the symptoms are ease obviously after a month of recovery period. Conclusion:intravenous administration of Shuanghuanglian injection for one month in beagle dogs, the safe dose was4mL liquid/kg.
