In china, about70%rural houses building materials are wall materials, and are still dominated by the clay bricks, which product not only consume field resources, pollution environment, but also poor insulation performance, high energy consumption. Therefore, developing many new wall building materials fitting China’s countryside construction is a priority.Straw as a natural material, is one of the byproducts of agricultural production. There are quite a lot of straws in China, are commonly used as an agricultural waste incineration,but utilization rate is only about5%. It has the advantage of lightweight and thermal insulating, but it is flammable easily. Magnesium oxychloride cement is an inorganic cementitious materials, the main composition is magnesia and magnesium chloride which have huge number of reserves in China. Magnesium oxychloride cement has excellent compressive strength, flexural strength, fire resistance and adhesion, but it has poor water resistance, easy returns to brine white, and is easy deformation. Straw wall materials regard magnesium oxychloride cement as a binder. Straw is treaded framework material and fiber-reinforced material, adding many specific modifiers, mixing of two kinds of material advantages, avoiding disadvantages of single material. It is researching and developing of a kind of new environment-protecting and energy-saving materials.This paper firstly studies main controlling parameters of magnesium oxychloride cement straw wall materials, such as density, strength, thermal conductivity, and gets a mix proportion of straw wall material through extensive testing. Under the trial mix proportion, determining the mechanical and thermal properties of straw wall materials, and changing the mix proportion by main control goal parameter. After repeating trial, get a optimum mixture ratio. It was found the straw wall materials have a series of advantages which the traditional clay bricks are not holding, such as low density, high strength, small thermal conductivity, and high flexural strength, certain flexibility. And due to the wrapped protective effect of magnesium oxychloride cement to straw wall materials, burning grades of straw wall material is quite high, also is a nonflammable material. Because of those advantages, China’s rural straw wall materials can be used as a new type of energy-saving insulation building wall materials, can be excellent alternatives to the traditional clay brick. Finally, this thesis compares magnesium oxychloride straw wall to existing thermal insulation wall, showing straw walls can avoid fire, straw wall has same life with main structure, and further illustrates to popularize its feasibility and value in rural.
