Because of the unique charm of ornamental fish, the development of economy and the increasing richness of people’s spiritual life, ornamental fish are becoming more and more popular all around the world. At present, there are approximately1,600different types of ornamental fish in the world, among which, freshwater goldfish account for750types and the rest are sea fish. Global annual trade volume of ornamental fish is$8billion, and the annual increase rate is more than10percent. Ornamental fish culturing in Xuzhou appeared much later than other regions, but it developed at a very rapid speed. Furthermore, the techniques of culturing ornamental fish have changed from single garden breeding to industrial fish farming and large scale farming. Through continuous experimentation on the breeding models, there are now three comparatively mature cultivation models, namely, pond cultivation, cement pond cultivation and net cage cultivation. There are three main types of ornamental fish in Xuzhou:goldfish, koi and tropical fish, with a variety of about40. Moreover, the cultivation scale is on the rise, too:in2010the cultivation area is2.54million mu and the output is363million tail, but in2010, the cultivation area and output has increased to2.67million mu and367million tail, respectively. Ornamental fish culture has become a new pillar industry of the special aquaculture in Xuzhou City.This paper is based on the experiments of both large and small goldfish culturing by way of pond culture, cement pond culture and net cage culture, and the data collected include site selection, fry stocking, feeding, water quality control, and daily management. And the data analyses show that the survival rate of cement pond cultivation of small fish is83%,13%and9%higher than the pond and cage culture respectively. The survival rate of Cement pond cultivation of large fish is80%,13%and15%higher than the pond and cage culture respectively. The output value of Small fish cage culture is108yuan per square meter,59yuan higher than cement pond cultivation and79yuan higher than pond cultivation. The output value of large fish cage cultivation is259yuan per square meter,84yuan higher than cement pond cultivation and215yuan higher than pond cultivation. The net profit of small fish cage cultivation is92yuan per square meter,54yuan higher than cement pond cultivation and72yuan higher than pond cultivation. The net profit of large fish cage cultivation is175yuan per square meter,74yuan higher than cement pond and149yuan higher than pond farming. From the comparison of output value and benefit, cage culture is obviously better than the other two models.Based on the data, and by applying the chain iteration method in economic analysis, the paper makes comparisons between cage culture and pond culture, cage culture and cement pond culture, and analyses the influence of changes in area and per-unit profit in pond culture and cement pond culture on total profit and finds out the advantages of culturing goldfish by cage. The paper also lists the factors which hinder the development of goldfish industry. In addition, the paper also discusses rejuvenation and purification of goldfish. Finally, based on the information of the development of Xuzhou goldfish industry, the paper discusses the prospect of its industrialization, informationization and opening of international markets.
