Warm season turfgrass was widely used in The Yangtze River Delta region, where urbanization grew fast and the shortage of water resources was more and more obvious.Turfgrass was irrigated with industrial wastewater in these places,so it became important about salt tolerance of turfgrass. Meanwhile, the winter was cold in the zone, there was a harmful impact on the turfgrass in winter by the cold weather. So salt tolerance and cold resistance of turfgrass was the key facter,if more warm season turfgrasses were planted in the zone. The five turfgrasses which were used in the experiment were Seashore Paspalum’Salam’, Seashore Paspalum’Seaspray’,Zoysia matrella.Zoysia japonica’Lanyin No.3’and bermudagrass’Tifway’.Morphological index and physiological-biochemical index of the five turfgrasses were investigated and analysed under salt stress and cold stress. The foundation for the application and breeding of excellent warm-season turfgrasses was laid in the experiment.Comparing the salt tolerance of five warm season turfgrasses in salt stress experiments, the foundation for the application and breeding of salt tolerance turfgrasses was laid. The indexes including turf quality(TQ),chlorophyll content (chl),relative electric conductivity (REC), malondialdehyde (MDA).SOD activity were analysed in NaCl stress (Ommol/L、100mmol/L、200mmol/L、300mmol/L、400mmol/L、500mmol/L) condition to evaluate the salt tolerance of the five turfgrasses. The result indicated that the TQ and chl content were decreased,REC and MDA content were increased,SOD and POD activity in low salt concentration is rising, the trend of high salt concentration was increased and then decreased.lt showed significant correlation between physiological indexs and turf quality by correlation analysis, which indicated physiological indexs can reflects the salt tolerance of turfgrasses. Two varieties of Seashore Paspalum showed the best salt tolerance,Salam was little better than Seaspray. Zoysia japonica’Lanyin No.3’and bermudagrass’Tifway’ showed the bad salt tolerance. Zoysia matrella showed moderate salt tolerance. The indexes including green period, relative electric conductivity (REC), malondialdehyde (MDA),soluble protein(SP) content,SOD activity and POD activity were analysed in cold resistance experiment.’Lanyin No.3’,Zoysia matrella and’Tifway’ were able to adapt to the winter climate in Nanjing, while two varieties Seashore Paspalum were not adapted to the winter climate of The Yangtze River Delta region.’Tifway’ turned yellow first, two varieties Seashore Paspalum turned green later, the green period of three grasses shorter than another two grasses.REC and MDA content of grass root increased under low temperature stress, and SP content also increased. SOD and POD activity increased firstly and then decreased.
