Jiaxian is a main tobacco growing area in Henan province, which is atraditional tobacco production county. Moreover, Jiaxian is one of the main materialsupplier of the Shanghai cigarette factory."Shan er xi" produced by Jiaxian is thetypical represent of “full aroma” tobacco in China, which had endured prosperous for400years, and once created the recor of tobacco leaf weight in the world. Tobacco isthe main economic crop in Jiaxian, and the perennial tobacco planting area was morethan100000Mu. At present, the county of production area over ten thousand Mu is5,with95villages own the planting area more than500Mu. The high quality andproduction, efficience of Jiaxian flue-cured tobacco production is closly related to itssuitable natural conditions, the use of fertilizer, and it advanced planting technology. This research had evaluated the soil suitability through studying the topography, soiltexture, climate conditions and soil nutrients of jiaxian tobacco growing zones, andGIS technology was adopted to conduct the tobacco growing areas division in Jiaxian. The main research conclusions are as follows:(1) Jiaxian have four main terrain classes, which are small ups and downs upsand downs in the low mountains, hills, early accumulation platform and flood plain, respectively. The four zones were divided according to different terrains Jiaxian.Flood plain was one of the biggest areas, which was quite suitable for tobaccoplanting.(2) RespectivelyAccording to the five soil textures (heavy loam, medium loam, light loam and sandy loam, loose sand), Jiaxian was divided into five areas. It isgenerally believed that sandy loam and loam soil were suitable for high qualitytobacco, of which the gravel loam is best. The medium loam was widely spreadthroughout central and southern region, while heavy loam is interval spread in otherareas, and the light loam was distributed in a small part of areas. Overall, the soiltexture of Jiaxian tobacco planting tobacco suitable ranges widely.(3) According to the basic climatic conditions of Jiaxian, the principalcomponent analysis was adopted to collected three principal and12indicatorscomponents from36meteorological index to classify the386villages in Jiaxian, which can be divided into four categories. The clustering results were imported intothe ArcGIS based on the map of villages, and the climate zoning maps of jiaxian wasgenerated.(4) Five principal components were extracted with the principal componentanalysis from the19soil nutrient indexes, and each principal component extracted amaximum load value indicators for cluster analysis. Based on the system clusteringanalysis result, with the clustering distance of16, three zones of jiaxian plant tobaccosoil were divided according to soil nutrient factors. Based on the average content ofsoil organic matter, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium in the various points, three zonewere classified and named high, middle and low fertility, seperately.(5) The partitioning map of terrain, soil texture, climate condition and soilnutrient were overlying in ArcGIS, and small pieces of plaques were artificialremoving. Jiaxian is divided into six areas, namely small and low mountain of heavyloam high fertility, high flood plain and heavy loam of high fertility area, flood plainarea of medium fertility, small and low mountain loam of low fertility area, small upsand downs of medium fertilizer in low mountain area, flood plain and loam of lowfertility area. The appropritate cultivation, fertilization method of each partition wasdecided according to the terrain, soil quality, climate condition, soil nutrientdistribution status in each region. The method used in this paper of divided Jiaxian tobacco growing areas into six regions, which proved the feasibility of this partition method. However, some indicators were greatly different among partitions, and some indicators had no obvious difference between districts. Therefore, the ecology divisions at the county level should basedon the ecological natural conditions to select the division index.
